Information Sharing:: Friso Gold 1 infant formula price shot up by $4.10!!!

We were doing our routine wee-hours-in-the-morning 1 am shopping at FairPrice Xtra Jurong Point, and was shocked to see such outrageous price increase.

We used to purchase the 900g Friso Gold 1 (for new born to 6 months) formula milk at $29.90, and its selling for $34.00 now.

We were told that the price increase was due to increased GLOBAL demand!

.
.
.
.
What a justification. I can imagine what the Friso management were thinking:

"We are selling well, let's increase our profit... yay!" *sniggles evilly with high fives*
.
.

-_-"

.
.

Well, they may have just lost a loyal customer because we have been using Friso since Kate was born.

We bought Dumex Mamil Gold this morning.

Latest update as at 17Sept, subject to changes: Friso Gold at Isetan is selling at $31.80. Cheaper than Fairprice.

Humor :: My mother taught me =)

Hello mommies and daddies,

This is my first maiden post, let me start off on the lighter side and kick off with some chuckles =) Oh, and here's a picture of Kate... at about 10 minutes old =D

"What were you thinking? Answer me when I talk to you! Don't talk back to me!"

4. My Mother taught me LOGIC...
"If you fall out off that swing and break your neck, your not going to the store with me."

5. My Mother taught me MEDICAL SCIENCE...
"If you don't stop crossing your eyes, they are going to freeze that way."

6. My Mother taught me to THINK AHEAD...
"If you don't pass your spelling test, you'll never get a good job."

7. My Mother taught me ESP...
"Put your sweater on; don't you think I know when you're cold?"

8. My Mother taught me HUMOR...
"When that lawn mower cuts off your toes, don't come running to me."

9. My Mother taught me how to BECOME AN ADULT...
"If you don't eat your vegetables, you'll never grow up."

10.My Mother taught me about SEX....

"You're just like your father."

"When you get to be my age, you will understand."

14.And my all time favorite... JUSTICE...

Found this website rather useful: http://sg.offerstation.com/index.htm

It reflects some of the promotion that is going on at the moment.

Hope this helps =)

Information Sharing:: Preparation checklist for your little one

I had absolutely no idea what to prepare for my new born and much research and based on personal experiences, I have compiled a list of items. Some are MUST HAVE, some are not.
For your reference.

CLOTHING & ACCESSORIES

  1. Socks – Take into consideration you change 2 pairs a day
    Mittens
  2. Bodysuits – Short sleeves with short pants. Preferably not those long sleeves that comes with long pants as some babies grow taller faster
  3. Long pants – get those with the foot covered. You can save a little time from washing their socks
  4. Shorts – I personally don’t use them. Waste time and effort
  5. Long sleeve shirts
  6. Short sleeve shirts
  7. Receiving blanket
  8. Hat – When you go out or alternatively go for towel that comes with hood

NURSING NEEDS

  1. Bibs – No hurry. They would use them till 4-5months old
  2. Handkerchief – to clean them or opt for tissue paper. No washing required
  3. Steam Sterilization Set with tong
  4. Milk bottle – don’t waste time getting small ones-i.e. max up to 160ml (Can only use for 2 months). Go straight for 260ml. I wasted a lot of money buying milk bottles. Just need to change the teat when they grow older
  5. Nursing cover – to cover yourself and feed baby. You will be required to bring your kid for checkup within the first week
  6. Diapers Bag
  7. Bottle Bag
  8. Hot flask – to carry water when your out for checkup
  9. Breastpump – Start with a manual one first as it helps to express your initial milk better than the electrical one. Electrical one can come l ater
BATHING AND TOILETRIES

  1. Bath towels
  2. Bath tub
  3. Anti-slip rubber mat for the bath tub
  4. Face towels / wash cloth/ handkerchief – Find those softer material one.
  5. Small tub for evening cleanup
  6. Shower bath – You can get them later as hospital usually provide samples
  7. Shampoo – You can get them later as hospital usually provide samples
  8. Baby Lotion – don’t use powder as it is not recommended as the baby might sniff in some

  11. Cotton buds
  12. Diapers (disposable)
  13. Facial cotton – to clean baby face (for evening cleanup)
  14. Sterile gauze – to clean baby tongue
  15. Small container to hold drinking water to clean baby tongue
    ***************************
  16. Diapers (washable) – highly not recommended. Waste time and water, waste effort and waste manpower. Each disposable diapers cost between 20 cents to 40 cents. So long you use nappy rash cream, your baby will have minimal rashes
  17. Nappy liners

  19. Cloth diaper  - Can be used as blanket on hot days and “mattress protector”

MEDICINE CABINET

  1. Thermometer
  2. Yu Yee Oil (Ru Yi You) / Baby oil that is good for colic
OTHERS

  1. Pacifiers – though most of us don’t wish to introduce this to your baby. Sometimes, we cant control it. Just have it standby

  4. Baby clothes detergent
  5. Baby bottle detergent

Information Sharing:: Organise your diapers basket

As my little one sleeps in the living room in the day,on my bed in the evening time and in her cot at night, we have put all essential items in a basket so that it is easy to move around to change her diapers any time and anywhere.

This is what we need at all times to change her diapers:
1. Wet tissue
2. Diapers
3. Bottom butter
4. Tissue
5. Thermometer - as and when to check her temperature
6. Hand sanitizer
7. Diaper changing mat
8. Facial cotton - To clean her face after each feed and to clean her hands.  Kate has been sucking her hands, so we have to clean her hands more often by making her grab them
9. Small container to hold the water

We have another container at the side that holds the cotton roll (Super kiasu right!) to wipe the exterior diaper area Will share with u how it looks like in the next posting.

How do you manage yours?

Information Sharing :: Choosing baby chinese name

Other recommendation from mummies
1. Yiu Long Zie

2. Goh Kim Huat
Tel: 94882629
3.http://www.geomancy.net/

I have personally engaged Mr Goh #2. Simple, hassle-free procedure. Just give him a ring, provide him your baby information and he will email you a list of names to choose from. Once you are satisfied with the name given, let him know and he will give u a date and time to register your lil one's name. After which, pay him via internet banking.

Love the simplicity!

Information sharing: Baby lotion

I had been using J&J for on Kate since birth and yesterday, we discovered this new Kodomo Baby Lotion Powder from Fairprice200ml for $4.50.

They claim to have 5 benefits:
- Dust-free
- Anti-rash
- Moisturizing

- Clinically proven
- Dermatologist-test

Both Hubby and I tested on it and the verdict is, it dries up fast and the texture feels thicker than J&J

Furthermore, one of my gf told me that Kodomo is good for sensitive skin. Though Kate doesnt have this problem, still worth trying as it feels "richer" in texture.

Information sharing: Tips on cleaning your lil one's hands

Learnt this from a friend: Let your lil one grab a damp handkerchief while you clean her body or change her pamper.

In this way, she has cleaned her own hands!

Isn't that great!

Any tips to share?

Information sharing: Baby milestone

Are you a first time parent like us? Have you ever wonder if your baby is indeed progressing well? What kinda toys or games should you be playing with your lil one? What should you be expecting?
I guess there are many more questions that you have been always wondering...

I have recently bought this book - Baby milestone by Dr Carol Cooper
"What to expect and how to stimulate your child's development from 0 - 3 years"

I personally find it useful.
Here are some of the chapters that is relevant to me at this moment
3 - 6 months Reaching out
Major milestones
1. Eyes reach their final color
2. Starts on solid food
3. Sleep thu the night
4. Develops better head control
5. Rolls from side to side
6. Sits up
7. Grasps objects
8. Reaches for objects
9. Put toes in mouth

In this sections, she talks about:
1. Growth and health
2. Feeding and sleeping
3. Motor development
4. Hand eye coordination
5. Senses
6. Toys
7.Communication
8.Emotions

Some snap shot on the toys chapter
Toys that can be introduced at this age
- Soft toys
Faces are a constant source of fascination to our lil ones, so, teddy bears, dolls and any other soft toys with faces are perennial favorites. These toys also help to teach our lil ones abt caring and being social, gentle and kind

- Toys with a noise
Until abt 6 mths, our lil one will enjoy rattles and wrist toys such as squeaky toys, and toys that right themselves when knocked over.
From abt 4 month, our lill one could probably b able to squeeze the toys themselves

- Balls
Watch them learn to move the ball themselves. For a start roll it slowly past them across  their line of vision.

- Baby gyms and activity centres
Since our lil one can reach out and actively explore with their hands, cradle gyms and activity centres bcome more interesting. There are also play-mat that incorporate different textures for your baby to enjoy.

- Books
Cloth books. Start teachin them how to grasp the end of the book while you hold the other end and read to them!

Interacting with ur lil one thu play
Some suggestions
1. Use finger puppets to act out a story. A game of 'peek-a-boo' will make your baby laugh with glee
2. Toys such as pop up clown or jack-in-the-box appeal to your bb's sense of surprise and anticipation
3. Use small squeaky toys as a game. Hold one in each hand and press one of them. Get ur bb to work out which of your hands is making the squeaks!
4. Nursery rhymes and bouncing songs help speech development
5. Building a tower of beakers or blocks and letting your bb knock it dwn, This also helps him to learn how tower is made

Just love sharing information around. Good day!
